After-School Program Interventions and Resiliency Education (ASPIRE Program)
Intensive Outpatient Behavioral Health Care for Ages 12 - 17: Now Welcoming Referrals. Launching May 2025
MarinHealth’s After-School Program Interventions and Resiliency Education
(ASPIRE) program is designed to help young adults ages 12-17 who are struggling
with anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic
stress disorder (PTSD), and other mental health challenges.
Designed by El Camino Health, ASPIRE is a proven approach that is now used by healthcare facilities throughout the Bay Area and beyond. Through a structured, evidence-based approach, ASPIRE’s curriculum gives young people the tools they need to develop emotional resilience, improve problem-solving skills, and build healthy relationships.
For adolescents and teens experiencing difficulty managing emotions, facing social challenges, or struggling with stress, ASPIRE offers a safe, supportive environment where they can gain confidence and learn skills that will serve them for a lifetime.
A Comprehensive Approach to Mental Wellness
ASPIRE is an 8-week program, with sessions occurring Monday through Thursday, from 3 – 6 pm at MarinHealth Medical Center in Greenbrae. ASPIRE’s structured outpatient program allows small groups of no more than 10 participants to receive intensive mental health support while remaining in school. The program is run by an expert clinical team, including Dr. Veronica Searles-Quick, a fellowship-trained psychiatrist who specializes in caring for adolescents and teens, and licensed clinical social workers (LCSW’s).
ASPIRE integrates multiple therapeutic approaches, including:
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) – A highly effective therapy that teaches mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – A treatment focused on identifying and changing negative thought patterns.
- Group Therapy – Tailored sessions where participants can process emotions and practice skills.
- Family Involvement – A parent or guardian is required to participate for 1.5 hours on Wednesdays to reinforce healthy communication and support their child’s growth.
- Medication Management – Our child and adolescent psychiatrist provides evaluation and medication support.
- Creative Expression Activities – Art projects, movement/yoga, and stress management techniques are leveraged to teach skills.

- Skill-building opportunities to foster independence and confidence.
- Consistent support from mental health professionals to navigate life’s challenges.
The Power of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
DBT is a core component of ASPIRE, helping young adults develop essential life skills, including:
- Mindfulness – Staying present and aware in the moment.
- Distress Tolerance – Learning how to manage emotional pain in tough situations.
- Interpersonal Effectiveness – Communicating needs and setting healthy boundaries.
- Emotional Regulation – Understanding and controlling emotional responses.
- Walking the Middle Path – Balancing different perspectives and accepting change.
