Areas of Volunteer Service

There are many volunteering opportunities available in every part of the hospital. Please let our Volunteer Coordinator know if you have special skills (clerical work, retail sales, computers, etc.).

If you are assigned to a care unit, you may be asked to greet patients and visitors, answer phones and patient call lights, distribute patient education and safety materials, run errands, stock patient rooms, push patients in wheelchairs, assist patients and support their care, perform clerical work, liaison with family and staff, and/or assist Nurses and Clerks, as needed. Volunteers are routinely assigned to the following care units:

  • BabyNook Store
    Retail sales, utilizing cash register and credit card terminal, or working to inventory, stock, and price merchandise and gifts

  • Book Cart
    Circulate the magazine cart to all waiting areas throughout the hospital. Replenish and straighten current magazines in all waiting areas in the hospital.

  • Cancer Care

  • Facilitate group discussions.

    Retail sales, utilizing cash register and credit card terminal or helping to inventory, stock, and price merchandise and gifts.

  • Hospitality Cart
    Set up coffee cart with supplies and offer patients coffee, cookies, and newspapers each morning.

  • Nutrition Services
    Conduct tray assessments and other clinical/food service quality improvement projects and satisfaction initiatives. Clerical and computer tasks, administrative support.
  • Family Information
    Volunteers serve as a liaison between Surgical Staff and families/friends of patients in surgery. They provide refreshments, newspapers, and conversation to waiting family members and friends.

  • Floor Duty/Supervisors
    Assist in the Volunteer Office: answer phones, disseminate information, accept flowers for patients, computer work, photocopying. Run errands such as distributing patient mail and e-mail, flowers, newspapers, disseminate magazines, etc. Perform tasks for other departments: compiling mailings and packets, filing, projects, and general clerical assignments.

  • Front Desk Reception (Main Entrance)
    Provide concierge services, greet and direct visitors and patients, as well as escort patients and visitors as necessary.
