A Healthy Beginning: First Days with MarinHealth

Author: Dr. David Klein, CEO

Hello everyone!

I’ve just started my second month as CEO of MarinHealth℠, and I’m thrilled to have joined this outstanding, dynamic organization. As a resident of Marin and a (former) hospital CEO in San Francisco, it’s been exciting to watch the growth of MarinHealth over the last few years. The opening of our new hospital building, the Oak Pavilion has been particularly exciting. It’s already been a whirlwind experience, as there is so much more to look forward to.

My predecessor Lee Domanico and I worked closely to ensure a smooth and seamless transition. Leadership changes can bring uncertainty, but we were both laser focused on limiting distractions and working with the MarinHealth team so they could continue to provide MarinHealth’s signature level of expert patient care.

In the days and weeks ahead, I will be rounding regularly at the Medical Center to learn more about the facilities, processes, and—people. I plan to hold virtual town hall meetings, send out regular messages, and keep my door and mind open for conversations. I truly enjoy forging relationships and making real connections with people.

It’s one of the reasons I pursued a healthcare career in the first place. After years as a general surgeon, I moved into hospital administration, and it’s been incredibly rewarding. My background gives me unique insight into healthcare issues, and I think it enables me to understand, empathize, and lead more effectively. If you’d like to learn more about my experience, please check out my bio or the press release that went out a few weeks ago.

I’m pleased to represent MarinHealth and will work diligently with the team here to continue to deliver exceptional care to the residents of the North Bay.
