Marin General Hospital Foundation Hosts Radiant Annual Gala to Benefit Marin Cancer Institute

“Bombay Dreamy” raises $830,000 in proceeds for leading cancer program

GREENBRAE, CA — Marin General Hospital Foundation, the philanthropic branch devoted to raising funds for Marin General Hospital, hosted its annual festive black-tie gala in downtown Sausalito on May 16 to benefit the hospital’s Marin Cancer Institute (MCI). With 650 guests in attendance and a vibrant theme, “Bombay Dreamy,” the gala raised $830,000 for the hospital’s cancer services.

This event honors the patients throughout our community, as well as the inspiring physicians, nurses and staff who work tirelessly at the Marin Cancer Institute and who dedicate their lives to helping others,” Andrea Schultz, Chair of the Marin General Hospital Foundation Board of Directors. “Through the years, the Foundation has seen a tremendous amount of support from the community. We are pleased to share these achievements and continue our mission to continue bring world-class upgrades and enhancements to the people we serve.

The annual Marin General Hospital Foundation’s Gala raises critical funds for hospital programs and services. In previous years, the gala has benefitted the Hospital’s Designated Trauma Center and Emergency Department.

The gala was chaired by Nancy and Skip Kniesche, and included committee members Pat Abrams, Sharon Early, Susan Gilardi, Kiki Pescatello, Tucky Pogue, Andrea Schultz, Sally Shekou, Marcia Sperling, Mike Stone, Sharon Stone, June Strunk, Janell Ciatti, Wayne Kaleck, Jon Kragh, Marie Lyons, Darice O'Neill, Maria Pitcairn, Cathie Bennett Warner, Dennis Whipp and Fran Zone.

Michael Finney, television journalist and host of “7 On Your Side” on ABC7 News, served as the master of ceremonies for the event.

“Marin Cancer Care and Marin General Hospital have made cancer care seamless for our patients and their families through the Marin Cancer Institute,” said Dr. Peter Eisenberg, MD, Medical Director of Oncology. “We have an exceptionally collaborative staff and physicians who put patients’ needs first; and we bring the very best practices, including clinical trials to our patients in a comfortable and nurturing setting. To witness the amount of community support for the hospital and its cancer services is inspiring.”

MCI at Marin General Hospital is a leading program for cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and recovery. It has a specialized expertise in multiple cancer types, including breast, prostate and colon.

In addition to treating patients with the latest advanced treatments and technology, MCI integrates holistic complementary care and supportive therapies from the Center for Integrative Health and Wellness (CIHW) into treatment plans as a way to heal the patient’s mind, body and soul.

MCI was awarded by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) with an Accreditation with Commendation, the highest honor from the American College of Surgeons, for the third time in a row. By exceeding all standards of care considered for special commendation, MCI has earned Gold-level designation, and for the third time in a row was named one of only four programs in the state of California to receive the the CoC’s Outstanding Achievement award.

Previous improvements funded through donations to the Foundation include the expansion and renovation of the Emergency Department, creation of the new Braden Diabetes Center and the electrophysiology lab in the Haynes Cardiovascular Institute.
