Leapfrog Award Honors Marin General Hospital as One of the Top Hospitals in the Country

This award is one of the most competitive distinctions a U.S. hospital can receive fewer than three percent earn the designation.

GREENBRAE, CA – Today, The Leapfrog Group, a national non-profit hospital watchdog group, designated Marin General Hospital as one of the top hospitals in the United States. Widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive distinctions a U.S. hospital can receive, the award honors only elite performers dedicated to providing the highest level of patient care. Fewer than three percent of American hospitals earn the Leapfrog Top Hospital designation.

“I am sincerely proud of the care team at Marin General Hospital for their commitment to the values and needs of our community, their exceptional collaboration, and intense dedication to providing high-quality, safe patient care,” said Lee Domanico, Chief Executive Officer, Marin General Hospital. “It is the vision of Marin General Hospital to exceed each community member’s highest expectations for quality health care and being named among the top three percent of all hospitals in the country for clinical excellence proves we are well on our way to doing just that.”

Marin General Hospital was one of 115 top hospitals recognized around the country overall and among 56 top general hospitals. The Top Hospitals list includes:

  • 9 Top Children’s Hospitals
  • 56 Top General Hospitals
  • 21 Top Rural Hospitals
  • 29 Top Teaching Hospitals

The selection of Top Hospitals is based on the results of the 2016 Leapfrog Hospital Survey. Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, maternity care, and a hospital’s ability to prevent medication errors. The rigorous standards are defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology.

“Being acknowledged as a Top Hospital is an incredible feat achieved by less than three percent of hospitals nationwide,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “With this honor, Marin General Hospital has established its commitment to safer and higher quality care. Providing this level of care to patients in Marin County requires motivation and drive from every team member. I congratulate the board, staff and clinicians, whose efforts made this honor possible.”
