A Taste of Texas - 2014

Marin General Hospital Foundation's 23rd annual golf tournament A Taste of Texas was held on Monday, September 22, 2014 at the Meadow Club in Fairfax.

Thanks y’all! Marin General Hospital’s Golf Tournament, A Taste of Texas, was a fabulous success raising over $200,000 for Marin General Hospital’s Stroke Center. The 23rd annual tournament was held on Monday, September 22nd at Meadow Club in Fairfax. The day included live Country music (at breakfast, lunch, and dinner!), mouth-watering barbeque and Texas-size generosity in support of Marin General Hospital. Event Chairs, Sharon Early and Bruce Braden hosted the sold-out tournament which included two hole-in-one contests sponsored by Lexus of Marin and Lexus Champions for Charity. A herd of volunteers staffed the contests and ensured golfers and guests were well taken care of. Our gratitude to the nurses, grateful patients and Marin General Hospital staff members who volunteered their time.

After a gorgeous day on the course, cocktails and dinner were enjoyed by all. Once again, our emcee extraordinaire, Brian Su, MD took the microphone and ensured the crowd was acknowledged for their philanthropic support and learned the signs for recognizing stroke symptoms – FAST!

Face: Ask the person to smile. Look for facial droop or a lopsided grin.

Arm: Have the person close his/her eyes and hold both arms out with palms facing up. Look to see if one arm drifts down or if he/she experiences weakness, tingling, or inability to move an arm or leg.

Speech: Check to see if the person is slurring words, speaking nonsense, or not able to talk.

Time: Time to call 911!

Marin General Hospital’s Stroke Center offers a complete spectrum of care, from prevention and education to timely and effective stroke treatment of ischemic and both types of hemorrhagic stroke (intracerebral and subarachnoid), which means there’s no risk of losing precious time transferring patients to another facility. We have a dedicated stroke team in place in our Emergency Department, where a neurologist is on call, 24/7. Patients who come in with a suspected stroke or transient ischemic attack (often called a TIA or mini-stroke) are immediately evaluated.

This important support will ensure the hospital’s ability to continue providing the highest quality care for our community. We look forward to seeing you next year at the 24th annual tournament… Join us!
