Jane C. Gehring, CNM, MPH
Jane has been a midwife since 1991 and has taken care of moms and babies in Marin for the past 24 years. Born and raised in San Francisco, she moved with her family to Central America at age 12. That experience awakened in her a lifelong passion for travel and exploring new cultures.
Jane earned a degree in theater, and her involvement in community arts sparked an interest in community health projects. While living in Ireland in the early 80’s, she became acutely aware of gaps in women’s health care and education and was inspired to return to the US in order to study women’s health.
She received her nursing degree at the University of Pennsylvania, where she discovered midwifery as her calling. After working as a labor and delivery nurse in Philadelphia, she returned to California to study midwifery at USC-LA County Hospital, where she became a staff member and clinical instructor. In 1994, Jane returned to her roots in the Bay Area to study at UC Berkeley where she obtained her MPH.
Jane joined Prima in 2011. She is fluent in Spanish and when she isn’t traveling, she enjoys spending her free time in the garden.
